Even in 2012, where technology has evolved beyond imagination, antivirus software remain to be of key importance due to increasing number of virus, hoaxes, trojans and exploits and the new free AVG 2012 antivirus edition simply proves to be the best among all of them.

The free edition is just perfect for PCs used for browsing and social networking. However, it is limited in the sense that it does not offer other security features such as file, email and e-commerce protection.

Features for AVG Antivirus 2012

The features for the new AVG Antivirus 2012 include some solid improvements. The first one is the technique to identify obnoxious threats to ever reach your computer e.g. the fake antivirus. The LinkScanner tool seems to be have been updated and AVG now also includes a memory monitoring tool that automatically warns you when your browser, Firefox, Chrome or even IE, consumes too much memory.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=flcgkd8vxjI

Apart from the Antivirus software, AVG has also introduced the AVG Internet Security 2012 which provides extended security features such as intrusion detection, email spam filters and even speeds up video downloads.

The AVG Internet Security 2012 can be downloaded for free but only for a trial. The full version costs $54.99.

The U-verse mobile video app by AT&T, that was debuted for the iPhone last August, has now been expanded and would be available on a number of Android devices. Samsung Infuse 4G, Windows Phone HTC HD7S, LG Phoenix and LG Thrive are the latest additions to the list.

U-verse mobile video app requires the customers to subscribe to a Tv plan and that is the only requirement. Once you are done with the subscription thing, you can watch Tv shows and series directly from your smartphone. What's more fascinating is that U-verse mobile library has been updated and you won't have to lose any extra bucks to enjoy the updated list.

It now includes about 700 Tv shows from more than a 100 Tv series.

AT&T now offers downloads of about 700 episodes from more than 100 TV series to U-verse TV subscribers -- for no additional charge for those with the U200 programming package or higher -- via apps for more than 20 smartphones.

Anxious consumers all around the world are literally counting days off their fingers as they patiently await the plethora of new product announcements that are to be made at CES later this week in Las Vegas. To add a little fuel to the already burning fire, Opera has just posted a quick teaser video showcasing a brand new product, an optimized for tablets Android browser.

Opera is already a pretty big contender in the browser arena and has well acclaimed mobile browsers such as Opera Mobile and Opera Mini, which particularly, was used by 76.3 million users in 2010 alone. Opera 11, which also was recently released, has been a popular browser too as it was downloaded a staggering 6.7 million times on its launch day.

So coming back to the video, we see that the device is a Samsung Galaxy Tab on which the new Android browser is been run upon, this short teaser video specifically brings into light the smooth and fluid movements of the browser while panning and zooming, as well as the usual Opera Mobile browser style home screen showing a grid of most visited websites.

Have a look at the video down below and see for yourself what just might be the best upcoming browsing experience on an Android running tablet.

Last couple of days have not been that pleasant due to the unfortunate outage which was caused by the sudden removal of supernodes. But the VoIP service thankfully is returning gradually to the position where everyone wants it to be. Skype CEO, Tony Bates in a blog post has informed the Skype audience that the group video chat feature is now back on the working features list.

The group video chat will be rolled out gradually to the entire Skype users:

Skype continues to be stable and all of our core services – audio, video and IM – are back to normal. Just in time for the holidays, we’ve been able to re-instate group video calling, which is already available for many of you, and should be fully operational for everyone within the coming hours.

The recovery journey is not over as the Skype team is hard at work to restore the very useful IM offline feature:

Our engineering team and operations teams have worked very hard to bring back our services, and they are very dedicated, working through their holidays, to monitor and ensure Skype is available to you. Some of the outstanding areas our engineers are continuing to work on include bringing back offline IM and adding further robustness to the Skype infrastructure.

New Year’s Eve is particularly one event on which one should definitely be in Times Square to enjoy the festivities, however it is quite impossible for every other person wishing to be there, to actually go there, but they need to worry no more, because as they say, there’s an app for that. Available on the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Android, this is The Times Square Ball App, best of all, it’s free.

The Times Square Ball App will allow users to view a live video feed of the New Year’s Eve celebrations from Times Square, meaning that users will be able to enjoy six-and-a-half hours of bands, frolic and festivities and that too without any commercials spoiling the fun. A customizable countdown clock to 2011 is also featured, situated front and center on the main screen of the app and adjustable for the time zone of the user.

Check in to Foursquare, Facebook and Twitter is also supported through the app, users can also post pictures of their own festivities as well as vote on photos that are submitted by other users. The photos which get the highest number of votes will get the privilege of being shown on the huge video screen atop One Times Square, just underneath the Waterford Crystal ball that makes its annual descent at midnight.

Web browsers are undoubtedly an essential thing for all internet users and being a good web browser entails providing sheer design and cutting edge performance to the users. We’ve seen many web browsers; some are even geared towards social networking, such as Flock and RockMelt, while others just fit the bill as conventional browsers. Opera is not a new name in this area and its latest browser has been in beta for quite some time now. However, now that changes with the launch of the final version of Opera 11, and it brings a variety of exciting features.

This newly launched version of Opera 11 brings some vital improvements to the overall web browsing experience, improvements which include extensions, tab stacking and visual mouse gestures to the browser.

Tab stacking will let Opera 11 users easily organize their tabs into groups by dragging and dropping tabs onto other tabs hence creating “stacks.” Tab stacking is an addition to other tab management features that Opera offers, like the feature of organizing tabs into categories or saving them for later. Extensions would let users improve the basic functionality of Opera through a number of add-ons which are available through the browser’s extension catalog.

Visual mouse gestures is an improved auto-update system which will make sure that the browser, extensions and Opera Unite apps are up to date. HTML 5 support is on board along with a number of performance improvements, memory issue fixes and a new e-mail panel.

Opera 11 can be download from here.

Web browsers are all the rage these days, and they certainly find a way to slip into the news every other day. Recently, we've had the brawl between Flock and RockMelt, Flock came out with its latest update to compete rather fiercely with RockMelt, and now, Google brings an update of its amazingly lightweight web browser. Ladies and Gentlemen, presenting Google Chrome 8.0.552.215 or simply, 8

So does the Chrome 8 actually bring something worth getting excited for? Well for one, it is claimed to be the stable version of Google's signature web browser. Whereas, as compared to its previous version, the Chrome 7, this update brings with it around 800 bug fixes and has added support for Google's Web apps. We have a deal sweetner as well, because the Chrome 8 also has a built-in PDF viewer. For people wishing to view the entire changelog for Chrome 8, can get the detailed changelog from here.

The Chrome developers work rather uniquely, as the browser has different branches, infact there are three development channels of the Chrome web browser, being stable, beta and developers preview. This particular version, the 8.0.552.215, has been upgraded to the stable version while just for now, the Chrome 8 will also populate the beta channel, and the 9.x branch is going to be the experimental version of Chrome.

It is about time that Google released the stable version of Chrome, it would definitely help the browser in keeping its position as many people's favourite web browser. Getting the Chrome 8 I'd very simple, as it can easily been downloaded from here.

It seems like the browser wars never come to an end! We’ve had rapid updates of some of the most popular internet browsers back and forth as competitors go head to head in their quest of making an impression on the internet. So here we have the next update to these ever lasting browser wars. The self acclaimed “social web browser,” Flock, has just bounced back at RockMelt with the release of Flock 3.5, which it hopes to establish a direct clash with RockMelt.

Yes, it is indeed a fact that the need to stay connect to all favorite social networks is inevitable, so to compliment this need of the modern age internet user, browsers such as RockMelt which uses Facebook authentication to synchronize a user’s browsing experience across machines, allowing for the browsing experience to be profiled. The clear layout that RockMelt boasted did make many heads turn towards its direction as this particular browser has received some pretty good reviews.

However, it looks like Flock has felt the need to update in order to compete with it’s savvy competitor, so Flock 3.5 definitely promises users added functionality and greater speed. The primary focus is obviously social integration, for which a sidebar is present through which users can update their Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn statues. Apart from that, it boasts a wide array of link sharing features, allows users to group friends on multiple services and also the “Social Search” feature which brings up information regarding a particular search.

Under the hood, Flock 3.5 is now based off of Chromium 7, definitely an update from the old Chromium 5 upon which Flock 3.0 was based; the Mac version is also based on Chromium now. Flock definitely understands the threats that RockMelt might pose to its business, hence it has greatly enhanced it’s product in a bid to retain a spot in the internet browser arena.

So the release of Flock 3.5 shows that the company isn’t going to go down without a fight, and would present a tough challenge to RockMelt, which has been gaining popularity. It looks like the social browser wars have just begun. Let us know what you feel about Flock 3.5 in your comments below.

Bored from old Skype 5 beta? Well here comes Skype beta 2 for Windows that has been released and is already available for download. It is definitely an upgraded version and most of the bugs are removed so it is, by all means, better than the previous version Beta 1.

It is packed with cool features such as increased number of video calls simultaneously. Previously, it provided a 5-way video calling option but the new beta provides jumps up to 10. Hats off to Skype interface designers for having designed a really attractive, neater and a user friendly interface.

One thing that this version ensures is better stability. You shall now get better call quality while your video-call conference is on the go. Due to increased connection stability it never drops a call, on the first place, but if the call drops due to any network error or for whatever reason then you don't need to worry for the re-connection; Skype's call recovery feature automatically builds the connection again. Most common possible bugs have been removed but according to Skype, this is still a beta version and there may be some odd bugs that remain.

The only so-called disadvantage is that all the members in the video call should have the beta 2 version otherwise they can't be a part of the conference. I think that is not a big issue as you can download it here.

Here's a blow for all Ubuntu lovers. Just a few while back, we witnessed the release of the Ubuntu version 10.10 in beta. The development team made the latest version still in beta, appear online at its official site, flashing for download. While the OS stays in beta stage, Ubuntu team revealed that the final release would appear on October 10th 2010. So what's new in Ubuntu 10.10 Beta?

Deemed as the most important development by Team Ubuntu, the Operating system first of all gets an upgrade in the GUI. Changes can be witnessed as new wallpapers and themes appear. The powerful Shotwell photo organizer and editor can also be seen as a new edition for the Ubuntu 10.10 Beta.

Ubuntu Default Desktop edition which presents the Gnome based platform has been upgraded to 2.31 version. Updating the version adds the ability of the new API dconf and gsettings. Evolution has also been update to 2.30 version which make the OS much faster. F-Spot was replaced by Shotwell as the default photo manager. Social networking has been given a thought due to which Gwibber has been updated to adopt the recent changes made to Twitter's authentication system. The Ubuntu Software Center brings in a brand new look and feel.

Unity Interface has been made the default Ubuntu Netbook Edition. The global menu bar has also been made a part of the interface. Date/Time indicator now outlays brand new look, presenting the real calendar widget. Same way as the desktop edition, the photo management application has been replaced to Shotwell.

On its 2nd anniversary, Google has released the 6th iteration of its widely-popular web browser Chrome. It is now available across Windows, Mac and Linux.

Here’s the official statement from Google:

Today, we’re releasing a new stable version of Chrome that is even faster and more streamlined. Chrome is now three times faster than it was two years ago on JavaScript performance. We’ve also been working on simplifying the “chrome” of Chrome. As you can see, we took the already minimalist user interface and stripped it down a bit more to make it easier to use. We combined Chrome’s two menus into one, revisited the location of the buttons, cleaned up the treatment of the URL and the Omnibox, and adjusted the color scheme of the browser to be easier on the eyes.

Generally speaking, Google makes little incremental updates to Chrome with each new stable release. While Firefox has achieved only version 3.5 in six years, Chrome has managed to reach version 6 in a mere two years.

Included in the latest release are:

Extension Synchronization: Sync your extensions/plug-ins across multiple computers with one Google Account

Support for V8/WebM videos

Built-in PDF support

UI changes (merged menu buttons) and a slightly more polished UI for Macs

How-to: Update

To update Google Chrome, follow these steps:

If Chrome is already installed

Open Google Chrome.

Click on the screw-driver options button on the top right corner. Now go to ‘About Google Chrome’ and click on “Check for updates”.

Be patient. Chrome will now download and install the update by itself.

If Chrome isn’t already installed

Download and install Google Chrome from official website.

Google has just introduced Voice Actions for Android at their Special Android Event. The feature lets a user control his/her Android phone using their voice. This is not limited to search rather Voice Actions allow you to send texts and email, listen to music, browse the web, and complete common tasks.

To use Voice Actions, tap the microphone button on the Google search box on your home screen, or press down for a few seconds on the physical search button on your phone to activate the “Speak Now” screen. For a walkthrough, take a look at video below.

It must be noted that Voice Actions requires a consistent data connection since the speech recognition takes place on the Google servers. Follow the link to view a complete list of compatible voice commands.

To make use of Voice Actions on your Android phone, simply download the updated version of 'Voice Search' from the Market. Android 2.2 (Froyo) is required and Voice Actions are currently available for U.S. English speakers

This new app for Android brings the same features as found in the desktop and iPhone version of TweetDeck - blended columns, slick user-interface, options for multiple social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Buzz and Foursquare.

As I tested the app on my Nexus One, the clean interface is what appealed me the most. However since the app is only in beta there is a lack of customizability toggles such as ability to change the font-size, choose an image uploader for Twitter etc but we hope that in the final version all such issues will be addressed and taken care of.

The app is compatible with Android phones running v2.1 or above. Follow this link to download app directly to your phone or take a tour first.

Twitter folks may be busy in building their official microblogging client for the Android, but that doesn't means Seesmic should stop working on its Twitter client. The third party app developers have proven us right and have rolled out an update for the Seesmic for Android. No, it's not a maintenance release, its an enhancement update with pretty interesting features.

Three new features have embraced the Seesmic version for the Android platform. The three new entrants are:

Widgets: The name itself says it all. The Seesmic Android widget, which by the way is the first one will make sure that you see your Timeline updated instantly.

Native Retweet: While not the most mind blowing feature, this option brings you the option to retweet using the new method which is a walk in the park, or the old and classical one, which allows you to add your remarks as well.

Geotagging: Let your fellow tweeps now the location from where you tweeted with the just enabled geolocation support.

To install the new version of Seesmic for Android, head over to the Android Market on any Android handset and browse the Seesmic app.

Attention Android nation, Boxee is coming to your handsets pretty soon. This exciting news was revealed by Boxee CEO Avner Ronen while giving an interview to the LA Times.

Android phones aren't the only landing destination for Boxee. The social media center is coming to the Android Tablets as well. All of this comes out as part of the organization's plan to expand into the fruitful mobile market.

Think of it as a service that allows you to watch videos from different online service, not to forget manage the content on your computer. The social touch comes to this service in form of social network account integration which of course includes Facebook, Twitter and others.

Netflix users can also become a part of this amazing service and watch videos online and manage their queues as well.
