Its been really long since Orkut introduced any new noticeable feature to its users. We are already aware that in the year 2007 Orkut is trying itself to beat the mark of MySpace by integrating new mashups and cool new features in the Orkut world.
Orkut Introduces Really Simple Syndication
RSS is basically a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated content such as blog entries, photos or podcasts. Orkut opens up a complete new dimension to all the Orkut users by allowing them to share photos, publish their favorite blog entries using RSS Feeds.
Orkut Profile Structure Updated
Orkut has updated its whole indivisual profile structure after this new upgrade. The left sidebar in the profile will now enable the profile owner to add/edit feed listings and will display the profile holder’s syndications to the public. Here is a preview:

Moreover you can edit the feeds and add a feed of your choice. Your feed may be a custom XML Feed from your blog or from your blogger.com blog or even from Flickr or Picasa Web Albums. Clicking the “edit feeds” button on the left sidebar of your profile will redirect you to the feed editor. Here is a look:

Once the feeds are added they are displayed as lists on your sidebar and anyone can preview them. Orkut now has an integrated feed reader which will read your XML Feeds and will display the content on the fly just like any other feed reader. Means it is another way for bloggers to give more publicity to their bloggers and gain more user attraction. The feeds will be public and anyone will be allowed to enjoy the content without visiting the actual site. Here is how Sizlopedia’s Feed looks on Orkut Feed Reader:

If you like this blog’s content, simply add Sizlopedia’s Feed to your Orkut profile and share it with your friends and family.
Orkut Expands To a Multi-Purpose Community
The new RSS integration in Orkut has not only elevated its value but has also made it capable enough to expand itself as a multi-purpose community which is not only used to make friends or dicsuss topics in community but also discover new content and new mysteries around the web.
Not only will it help publishers gain fame and name rather it will help users from countries like Pakistan, where most people don’t even know what are RSS feeds, discover a new spectrum through which they can expand and discover new ideas around the web and internet.

i hope they will integrate scrapbook publishing aslo…officially after some time.
I m desperately waiting for 2 features for Orkut to implement
1. Remote Scrap Software/Utility
2. Scrap Feeds
I have waiting for more theme support other than these greese monkey scripts.
Nirmal You are a billion percent right Nirmal
I think Orkut should introduce pre-made styles to its users other than the boring Blue theme that we have been seeing for over 2-3 years now.
But definitely I wouldn’t want Orkut to make the profiles open source like MySpace where people take wrong advantage of the liberty and upload malicious scripts and exploits to their profiles which harms other users. In this case Orkut is still at the lead.
Orkut is growing, growing and still growing
I would also love to see some new themes and scrap feeds . Btw Dj , whats ur orkut id .
Madhur Kapoor Lol Madhur the days are gone when I used to be an Orkut freak but still here is my profile link and you can add me if you like though I do not visit orkut so regularly
uuuuuh,,,,
Orkut’s cool but still in neophytic stage lots of enhancements shud be done … as far as Feeds r concerned…5 is very very very less for me…
