Wordpress Plugin To Make Money with Firefox Referral

firefox popup

You do not get much opportunities to act Evil in front of your audience especially when you are a blogger but whenever you get the chance I think you should avail it. Bloggers and developers already have that poison in their minds from day one which is known as “hatred for IE” and they exhibit this hatred in as many ways as possible. One such sweet method I have for you that will not only help you show your hatred for IE and love for firefox but will also help you make money from it (Woah! Thats evil now)

Make Money with Firefox Popup Plugin

Firefox Popup is a wordpress plugin that helps you promote firefox and at the same time allows you to make money through it. This plugin will show your IE users how much you love firefox and will persuade them to download firefox through your adsense referral on your behalf which in turn will help you to generate revenue from your blog.

How The Firefox Popup Plugin works?

When a IE user comes to your site, the plugin displays a popup with a link to download Firefox. The popup is fully CSS displayed, so the user don’t need to have javascript activated, and you can configure it to be more or less obtrusive. You can select from three different style options that decide how the popup is displayed. There is also a “Hide” link present for users so that they can hide the popup whenever they like.

Download and Install

  1. Download
  2. Install
  3. Activate it in the plugin page
  4. Configure it in the option page
  5. Add this in your template, just after the body markup :
    if(function_exists("fp_popup")) fp_popup();
  6. Test it with IE6 and IE7, so you can be sure the plugin doesn’t mess up your blog design. If you don’t have IE then you can use this service. Anyway, you shouldn’t have any problems with the “top” view.

This plugin is definitely Evil and can act as a IE traffic killer :D use it well

Since i used redoable theme before, I already had that script to show spread firefox toolbar whenever the user is using Microsoft Internet Explorer to access the site. Same I implemented in my current theme pressrow.
Hey DJ, in your second screenshot the popup is covering the content, that could be bugging for some users. Hope this plugin is properly tested :)

This is a horrible way to annoy users. I’d only do it with IE6 users. IE7 isn’t that bad and it’s my exclusive web browser.

I’ve seen some blogs with these types of blocks saying you must use X to enter. I put them in the Restricted Zone and I get access.

Over at Gearfire, I use the same concept, but I fiddled around with the raw code to make it more compact, and less annoying to IE users. As much as I hate IE, half of my traffic uses them, so I can’t reject them completely.

Kanak lol the popup is feature of this plugin and I think its really great when you want to get evil enough to make all your IE users run away lol

Chris You are right. IE7 is better at least :)

Geoff R Honestly I don’t know myself when IE6 will completely vanish from the computer world :(

lolzzzzzz.. but hey .. you spelled my name wrong !!! I also want IE6 to vanish as soon as possible. the internet explorer users who visit my site , 50% are still IE6. Fonts looks more beautiful in IE7 but still , since firefox has extentions , I cant even dream of neglecting it :D

When I went to my blog’s stats in Google Analytics, I was surprised to see that most of the visitors were using Firefox and very less people were using IE. I would like to use the plugin if it just stays quiet without disturbing the readers a lot.

Are you using it in this blog , because i am using IE 7 and i am not getting a pop up window .

This plugin is so super funny. I wish I had enough guts to put it up on my blog!

A lot of web developers, bloggers, webmasters etc use FireFox so if your blog/site is based around similar topics you probably will have mostly FireFox or other browser users besides IE. I think IE6 will be around for a while longer because IE7 is not compilable/will not install on some of the OS’s that are still being used.

I personally hate pop-ups, and wouldn’t either want my readers to suffer from them. But this pop-up doesn’t seem to be like the usual pop-ups. Will it a try and see.

I have seen it in quite a few blogs, but this a bit annoying for me, I prefer not to use it.

I am not using the plugin on my blog right now as I think I would simply kill my traffic by doing so but I think I will use it in future with a bit of customization.

I get 40% traffic from IE so I really can’t dare to kill all that traffic. The plugin is somehow very annoying lol

Isn’t illegal using popup for showing ref ads??

No man :) This is absolutely legal as far as I think however it won’t be hard to just mail Google Adsense support and confirm from them

I wonder if this goes against Google’s TOS because your essentially telling people to click on the ad which is not allowable.

I don’t think that by using this plugin you are “forcing” people to click on the ad because there is a “hide me” button too

Still as I said one should first confirm this from the Google Adsense Support team because you never know it may turn out to be against Google TOS

Ron

I used this script in my blog (axeks.com/blog) but doesn’t work. I don’t get to see it in IE or opera.

Ron I would recommend you to use the simple Trick to make money through Firefox referrals rather than using this plugin.

The use of many plugins makes your Wordpress database crowded and your blog loading time is affected so please try the alternative easy-to-use trick. Thank You.
