Add XML Sitemaps to Windows Live Search

Posted by Saad Hamid on November 16, 2007

live-webmaster-logo.gifBloggers know the importance of XML sitemaps very well. XML sitemaps are the key to faster search engine indexing and are the ultimate language of communication between you and search engine spiders. Google Webmaster Central is the official webmaster platform provided by Google and you can use it to add your blog or site XML sitemap to Google.

This will help Google to recognize your site pages fast and soon enough you will start receiving Google search engine traffic.

However until now, Live Search did not have any such tool which could be used to communicate between Live search engine and webmasters but with the launch of Live Search Webmaster Center you can easily submit your XML sitemap to Live Search and ensure that Live Search will send you the maximum search engine traffic along with Google.

Just visit http://webmaster.live.com/ and sign up if you don’t have a Windows Live ID. If you do then simply login and add your blog XML sitemap using the easy instructions. Live Search Webmaster Center will tell you the rank of your domain and will also display your top 5 pages. Additionally, it will give information about your inbound, outbound links, keyword position ranking and sitemap status.

My traffic from Live Search has always been considerably good and now with a direct communication with Live Search using Live Webmaster Center I think my traffic from search engines will increase more.

Here is a similar service provided by Yahoo! for webmasters called Yahoo! Site Explorer

Thanks for this. I get good hits from Live search already but I guess this will improve more. I have already 130000 pages indexed there. :)

You are always welcome. By the sound of it I think you have some really nice number of pages indexed in Live search.

Interestingly, MSN Live kept telling me that the Website address is wrong while everything was fine.

The instructions aren’t good too. Compare that to the instructions on yahoo and Google.
