Google recently went for shopping and as expected has brought something with it. The search engine giants have acquired Plink, a UK based company who has the developing hand behind the mobile visual search engine PlinkArt. As one would expect the Californians would be using this latest acquisition to enhance one of its own coolest invention that is Google Goggles.

PlinkArt is an Android app which requires the user to provide a painting image as input by using the phone's camera and in return provides you the information that will help you in identifying the piece of art and other interesting facts.

Google doesn't plan to use this for identifing painting or book covers only. Instead it is looking for bigger things in the form of a visual search engine as revealed by the Plink's official blog:

Google has already shown that it’s serious about investing in this space with Google Goggles, and for the Plink team the opportunity to take our algorithms to Google-scale was just too exciting to pass up…We’re looking forward to helping the Goggles team build a visual search engine that works not just for paintings or book covers, but for everything you see around you.
