Facebook Tightens Security with Remote Logout

Facebook has upped the ante on security for its users, with the launch of the remote logout feature which will give users the ability to monitor account activity and remotely log out of active sessions.

For some Facebook users, account privacy is the utmost concern. May it be because of the reason that decadent teenagers might not want their parents snooping in on their "socio-personal" lives, or maybe because they don't want the people in their limited profile to find out who they're "in a relationship" with.

So imagine the horror for one such person when they find out that they've left their Facebook logged in, and have no means to access it at that instant, because someone can surely wreak havoc in a person's life, by posing as them, if they have that sort of unrestricted access to their personal and social life on Facebook.

Nevertheless, Facebook comes to the rescue, via the Remote Logout feature it has just recently rolled out.  The new feature appears under the “Account Security” section of Account Settings. Account Security displays the most recent activity related to your account, including location, device name, time and device type/browser. This should give you a clue as to whether you left Facebook open at a public computer or just left it running at the office PC.

The Facebook team has explained this in their blog as:

In the unlikely case that someone accesses your account without your permission, you can shut down the unauthorized login before resetting your password and taking other steps to secure your account and computer

This is most definitely a much appreciated security update from the world's largest social network, and many are to benefit from it.
