One of the reasons why people know Sony today is definitely PlayStation, the gaming device which been a massive hit since its initial launch and even after that in future versions. Hands down, it can be said that the PlayStation has carved its own niche. However now, it looks like Sony is spreading the charm of PlayStation to mobile devices, the iPhone and Android to be exact.

The company is going to release apps for the iPhone and Android devices, most like in the first quarter of 2011, and best of all, these apps will be absolutely free. iPhone and iPod Touch users running OS 4 and above will be able to enjoy this app as well as those Android users having compatible handsets with a minimum of OS 1.6.

The version 1.0 will allow you to:

  • Check out your PlayStation Network trophies and keep up to date with your friends’ games and online status.
  • Discover all the latest games, news and hardware for your PlayStation 3, PSP and PlayStation 2.
  • Read all the announcements on the European PlayStation.Blog.
  • Share your favorite products or news with your friends on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands are the first few countries which will be getting the first version 1.0 of this app, the company says that work on the next version which will support most SCEE countries and languages is already underway, and it has also said that it plans to bring more features to this app in the next few months.
