About.me, a new Splash-page startup which terms itself as a custom profile & personal analytics dashboard has just been acquired by AOL, and it has been only four days since it was officially launched to the public. The amount, at which the acquisition has been made, was not disclosed.

Even before its public release, About.me had gained popularity with those who signed up in the beta stages, even though registration was not open for all, it usually meant waiting for an invite to set up a profile.
Those new to About.me, are going to find this service quite useful as it allows users with tools which they can use to create colorful profile pages that can connect and easily pull in content from their respective social media streams. Back in September About.me had began letting prospective users reserve their names and pages and had officially launched on December 16th, now About.me is an AOL owned property.
Co-founder Tony Conrad says:
About.me becomes an important piece of their strategy to reach across and engage the web - We think it’s a huge advantage to become part of a suite of communication AIM, Aol Mail and community-driven (Patch, Seed) services. This is truly a win-win for our users, investors, team and Aol
Now, seeing that the future of About.me lies in AOL’s hands, it can be safely assumed that the new publicly launched startup can remain intact under AOL as Tony Conrad and the team will be joining the Consumer Applications Group led by Brad Garlinghouse.
