While we still await the release of Comex’s untethered jailbreak tool for iOS 4.2.1 which missed its Christmas deadline, here is a rather interesting scoop on the latest round of jailbreak news. For those of you who are not familiar with Comex, He is the man behind Spirit and JailbreakMe and was contacted by iPhoneItalia in order to find out whether or not Comex is going to release his untether jailbreak tool for iOS 4.1, read on down below to find out his reply.

And in true Steve Jobs fashion, came the curt reply from Comex:
Depends when 4.3 is out
So what this new development means is that the untethered jailbreak tool is ready but in order to avoid problems with Apple, Comex is delaying the release to first properly assess the situation so that his work is not undermined due to the release of a new firmware upgrade as this particular tool will most probably be using a new hack.
However if you want to untether your iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak as of now, the only way possible is by using the latest version of Redsn0w, because it seems now that Comex will only be releasing his untethered jailbreak tool after Apple releases a fresh firmware upgrade.
