Apple To Install Additional Antennas At Apple Retail Stores For Improving Verizon Reception

Last month, the much awaited Verizon iPhone 4 was finally announced ending months of speculation and rumors about the device. The CDMA based iPhone 4 is to hit stores in the United States on February 10th, 2011. However it looks like Apple and Verizon Wireless have surveyed various Apple Retail Stores to find out which ones need installation of addition antennas to improve Verizon reception, reports TiPb.

The news may not be that important for all as usually big malls are known for deteriorating signal reception for almost every network and for that purpose extra antennas are normally used to overcome the reception issues. However, it seems nice that both Apple and Verizon are working hard to ensure a smooth launch of the iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless.

Excerpt from the letter:

Apple has entered into an agreement with Verizon to be an additional carrier for iPhones. We're very excited about this, and want the rollout to go as smoothly as possible. In that regard, we have identified the stores on the attached list as requiring installation of small-scale equipment to improve in-store cell reception. Apple and Verizon need to conduct a survey to determine where to place an exterior antenna (about 1 foot long, 5 inches wide and less than on inch thick) and the best route for running cable from the antenna to our store.

The real question is whether or not you will face reception issues at places other than the Retail Stores, which obviously will be found out once the Verizon iPhone 4 starts being used after February 10th. Meanwhile Verizon iPhone 4 Pre-orders start today.
